CITY OF WAXAHACHIE DADDY-DAUGHTER DANCE CHANGES LIFE

Daddy-Daughter Dance Helped Change the Life of 15-Year-Old Community Member

(January 30, 2024)- The City of Waxahachie will host the 13th annual Daddy-Daughter Dance on February 1. The popular event which helps kick off the month of love sold out 500 tickets in under four hours. The Civic Center is set to be transformed into a magically themed Barbie Blowout “Dare to Dream” wonderland for the occasion.

For many, the dance has become a tradition, including Lauren Aguilar, who has attended with her father Lawrance since the age of six. Lauren’s mother remembers these daddy-daughter dates fondly and what they have meant to their family.

“I still remember the first year that Lauren went to the dance. She struggles with anxiety, and it was hard for her to leave the house that night. She gathered enough courage to go an hour before the dance ended,” said Lauren’s mother, Carol Aguilar.

Lauren’s father patiently waited and when they arrived at the dance, her fears disappeared. “She had a great time and did not want to leave. This event was a stepping stone for Lauren. Anxiety can still be a challenge, but she doesn’t let it keep her from trying new things and having positive experiences.”

Lauren, who is now 15, recently decided to volunteer at this year’s dance after attending for eight years. She is looking forward to making this a night to remember for other young girls.

“If I had to share one piece of advice, it would be to be brave even if you are feeling scared,” said Lauren Aguilar. “Once you walk in, you will be amazed by how pretty it is, and there are lots of things to do with your dad and the other guests. It really does turn out to be so much fun!”

In addition to making wonderful memories, guests will be treated to dinner via a partnership with Raising Cane’s. Barbie-themed door prizes will provide a tangible keepsake to all attendees. A disc jockey will play music throughout the night, setting the tone for dancing, and playing games like flamingo bowling and ring toss, offering ample opportunities to bond and interact with other guests.
