Drainage System Maintenance

Drainage System Maintenance

The City of Waxahachie Public Works crews work hard to maintain the drainage systems throughout the city.

It is illegal in the City of Waxahachie to dump any type of debris into a stream, river or drainage ditch. This debris can become entangled in culverts, shallow streambeds, or drainage ditches and impede drainage causing the flow of water to back up. Residents of Waxahachie should also keep drainage ditches on their property free of debris, foliage and vegetation that would impede the flow of water. Debris dumping should be reported to the City of Waxahachie’s Code Compliance Department by calling 469-309-4130.

Blocked Inlets
Street flooding is often the result of storm drains that are too small to handle heavy runoff. In other cases, though, the drain may need cleaning. Report street flooding to Public Works Department and crews will investigate.

Drainage Channel Maintenance
Public Works Department provides major maintenance to public drainage channels within the City. This work consists of erosion repair, sediment removal, vegetation management and removal of downed trees and other blockages. However, within private property routine mowing, trash pick-up, erosion repair, downed trees are normally the responsibility of the property owner.
